The Oxford English Dictionary defines poverty as: ‘The condition
of having little or no wealth or material possessions; indigence, destitution, want,' or 'the condition of having insufficient
resources or income; a lack of basic human needs, such as adequate and nutritious food, clothing, housing, clean water, and
health services.'
Nowadays, it has become to be understood as a lack of access, be it
lack of access to natural human rights such as food, clothing, shelter, education, health care, and clean water.
Today, all over the world, gaps between the rich and the poor, even in the richest of countries, is increasing
sharply. A fewer amount of people are becoming "successful" in wealth, while an un-proportioned bigger population is becoming
even poorer.
When exploring poverty and its inequalities on a global scale, it is simply not accurate to claim that the
poor are poor because of their own or their government's bad management...One could conclude that both the rich and poor are
in the state that they are in simply because the rich have the power to enforce unequal trade agreements that "favor
their interests more than the poorer nations"
